Srinagar, Nov 19: Apni Party President Altaf Bukhari on Tuesday called for transparency and clear communication regarding the detention of several Kashmiri students outside the Valley. He was speaking at the launch of the book “Sardar Patel Aur Kashmir” by Saif-ud-Din Soz in Srinagar.

Bukhari highlighted the need to learn from history and to acknowledge differing viewpoints, stating that every perspective holds value in a democratic setup. He said the book comes at an important moment and may help people better understand varying narratives.

Referring to the recent episode involving Kashmiri students, Bukhari termed the developments “deeply unfortunate and highly distressing.” He urged authorities to ensure that innocent students were not subjected to harassment during the investigation.

“Children studying in that college are being summoned. At the very least, their parents should be informed about where they are and the status of the inquiry,” Bukhari said.

He added that many worried parents had approached him, uncertain about which agency had taken their children into custody. “If there is an investigation, parents have a right to know. Authorities should communicate clearly to avoid unnecessary anxiety,” he said, appealing to the Home Minister and local police for greater transparency.

Bukhari also pointed to the confusion caused by the involvement of multiple agencies in the case. “Several agencies are handling the matter, and parents are understandably confused. They should at least be told which agency is dealing with their child’s case,” he said, stressing that innocent students must not be troubled and that the inquiry should be fair, humane, and just.
