SRINAGAR: A Kashmiri doctor employed at a private hospital in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, has been arrested and handed over to Jammu and Kashmir Police for allegedly putting up posters supporting the banned militant outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) in Srinagar.

According to a report by ETV Bharat, the accused has been identified as Dr. Adil Ahmed, a resident of Anantnag district in south Kashmir. His arrest follows an investigation launched by Srinagar Police after several pro-JeM posters surfaced at various locations in the city.

Officials said CCTV footage from the area purportedly showed Dr. Ahmed affixing the posters. Acting on this lead, a team from Srinagar Police, with assistance from the local police and the Special Operations Group (SOG), conducted a raid at a private hospital on Ambala Road in Saharanpur, where the doctor was detained on Thursday.

Additional Superintendent of Police (City), Vyom Bindal, confirmed the arrest, stating that Dr. Ahmed was produced before a court, which subsequently granted transit remand to the Jammu and Kashmir Police to facilitate his transfer to Srinagar for further investigation.

Authorities in Saharanpur have reportedly intensified background checks on healthcare professionals from Jammu and Kashmir working in local hospitals and clinics.

Police sources said the investigation began after posters linked to JeM appeared across parts of Srinagar, prompting a swift registration of a case and review of surveillance footage. The accused has now been taken to Srinagar for questioning, while the probe continues.
