SRINAGAR: With talks between Ladakh leaders and the Centre at a standstill, the Leh Apex Body (LAB) and Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) have announced a two-hour silent march and a three-hour evening blackout to protest Delhi’s inaction after the September 24 violence that left four dead and nearly 100 injured.
At a press briefing in Leh, KDA leader Asgar Ali Karbalai said the protests aim to show that “Ladakh remains in darkness.” The date will be announced soon, he added, urging the government to meet their demands — a judicial probe into the killings, compensation for victims, release of detainees including climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, and resumption of talks on statehood and Sixth Schedule status.
The September unrest erupted during Wangchuk’s 35-day hunger strike seeking constitutional safeguards for Ladakh and escalated when security forces opened fire on demonstrators.
