Washington, September 24, 2025 – Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is scheduled to travel from New York to Washington on Thursday to meet US President Donald Trump, marking the first White House meeting between the two countries’ leaders since July 2019. At that time, former Prime Minister Imran Khan visited Washington to meet then-President Trump.
Shehbaz, who is currently attending the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, will return the same day to continue his UN engagements, according to diplomatic sources cited by The Express Tribune.
The meeting comes amid efforts to reset Pakistan-US relations, following a noticeable thaw under President Trump’s administration. This marks a departure from the previous US approach under President Joe Biden, during which Pakistan received minimal direct engagement at the highest levels.
In June, President Trump held a rare one-on-one meeting with Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir at the White House, signaling a more open and transactional style of engagement with Islamabad. Thursday’s meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz is expected to further strengthen bilateral ties.
