Sept 24: The Election Commission on Wednesday announced that elections to fill four vacant Rajya Sabha seats from Jammu and Kashmir will be conducted on October 24.
These seats have remained unoccupied since February 2021, leaving the Union Territory without representation in the Upper House of Parliament for more than four years.
The terms of former MPs Ghulam Nabi Azad and Nazir Ahmed Laway expired on February 15, 2021, while Fayaz Ahmed Mir and Shamsher Singh Manhas completed their tenure on February 10, 2021.
With the upcoming polls, Jammu and Kashmir is set to regain its long-pending presence in the Rajya Sabha.
