New Delhi May 2: At least seven people lost their lives in rain-related incidents as a sudden spell of heavy rain, accompanied by a dust storm, swept across parts of northern India early Friday morning, causing widespread chaos and disruption.
In the Delhi-NCR region, a three-hour downpour led to significant waterlogging, uprooted trees, and massive traffic jams. Several key roads in Delhi, Gurugram, Faridabad, and Mathura were submerged, leaving commuters stranded for hours in bumper-to-bumper traffic.
Visuals from affected areas showed vehicles partially submerged in water, including one in Faridabad where locals were seen attempting to pull out a marooned car. In Ghaziabad, long queues of stalled traffic added to the mayhem.
Flight operations were also impacted, with several delays reported. Civic authorities have initiated cleanup and restoration efforts and have urged the public to exercise caution as more rain is forecast in the coming days.
