Anantnag, August 1: In a significant breakthrough in ongoing counter-terrorism operations, Anantnag Police, in a joint operation with security forces, foiled a possible terror plot by apprehending three individuals in possession of arms and ammunition during a routine naka checking near Krad-Ranipora Road.

The operation was conducted near Panchayat Ghar Krad by a team comprising personnel from Police Station Uttersoo, SOG PC Chittergul, and the Army’s 19 Rashtriya Rifles. The checkpoint was established based on specific intelligence inputs regarding suspicious movement in the area.

During the operation, a white Alto 800 vehicle traveling from Kard towards Ranipora was signaled to stop. However, the driver attempted to flee the spot, triggering a swift and coordinated response by the naka party. The vehicle was intercepted shortly thereafter, and all three occupants were detained.

Upon a thorough search of the vehicle, illegal arms and ammunition were recovered. The arrested individuals have been identified as:

  1. Waseem Rehman, son of Abdul Rehman Sheikh
  2. Eahsan Akram, son of Muhammad Akram Lone
    – Both residents of Midoora, Tral, Awantipora
  3. Ishfaq Ahmed Bhat, son of Ghulam Ahmed Bhat
    – Resident of Koil, Pulwama, and driver of the vehicle

A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the intent, network, and possible targets associated with the arrested individuals.

Authorities hailed the successful operation as a timely action that potentially averted a major security threat in the region.
