Sopore, Feb 12: In a proactive initiative to curb the rising instances of cybercrime, Sopore Police on Thursday organised a Cyber Awareness Programme at Dak Bungalow, bringing together traders, transporters, students, and members of civil society.
The programme aimed to sensitise participants about the growing threats in the digital space and the importance of cyber hygiene. Officers highlighted common forms of cyber fraud, including online banking scams, phishing attacks, social media hacking, and OTP-based frauds. They also educated attendees on safe internet practices and the significance of safeguarding personal and financial information.
During the interactive session, participants were informed about the procedure for reporting cybercrimes and the role of cyber cells in addressing digital offences. Police officials urged the public to remain vigilant while using online platforms, avoid sharing confidential details, and verify suspicious links or calls before responding.
Emphasising collective responsibility, the speakers stressed that awareness is the first line of defence against cyber threats. The participants appreciated the initiative and expressed the need for such programmes to be conducted regularly across educational institutions and market associations.
Sopore Police reiterated their commitment to strengthening cyber safety measures and encouraged citizens to promptly report any suspicious online activity.
“Stay alert. Stay secure,” the police advised, reinforcing the message of digital vigilance.
