Shopian, Aug 20: In a joint operation, Shopian Police and the Forest Department seized a large quantity of illegal timber from a house in Borehalan during the night of August 19.Acting on a tip-off, the team recovered 38 logs measuring around 300 CFTs, which had been concealed within the residential premises.
Officials said the seizure marks a significant action against timber smuggling that endangers the district’s fragile forests.A case has been registered at Police Station Heerpora, and investigations are underway to trace those involved. District authorities praised the swift action and warned of strict measures against forest offenders.
Police and Forest officials also urged the public to report any information related to timber smuggling, reiterating their commitment to protect forest resources.
