RAMBAN, APRIL 20: Following relentless rains and sudden flash floods that swept through various parts of Ramban district early this morning, the District Administration has initiated a large-scale rescue and relief operation.
Deputy Commissioner Baseer-Ul-Haq Chaudhary is leading the response efforts on the ground, closely monitoring developments in the affected regions. He was joined by SSP Ramban Kulbir Singh and other key officials to assess the situation firsthand and coordinate ongoing operations.
Rescue teams from the Police, SDRF, Civil Quick Response Teams, the Army, and several other departments, along with volunteers from local NGOs, have been deployed across the district to aid in rescue and recovery efforts.
Tragically, three people, including two children and an elderly individual, lost their lives due to the calamity. Expressing deep condolences to the families of the deceased, the Deputy Commissioner reaffirmed that saving lives and restoring essential services are the administration’s immediate priorities.
He stressed that the district authorities are acting swiftly, following government directives to strengthen rescue operations and ensure public safety. The DC also appreciated the public for following official advisories shared through social media and other platforms, which helped prevent further casualties.
Significant damage to infrastructure and property has been reported from several locations. The DC appealed to residents to avoid venturing into hazardous areas such as waterlogged zones and landslide-prone slopes, urging everyone to remain in safe spaces.
He also cautioned the public against spreading or believing unverified information, and encouraged reliance on credible sources for updates.
