Budgam, Nov 11: Polling to decide the fate of 17 candidates in the Budgam Assembly bypoll began on Tuesday morning amid tight security arrangements, officials said.
Voting commenced at 7 a.m. across 173 polling stations set up in the constituency and was progressing smoothly, the officials added. The polling process will continue till 6 p.m.
According to election officials, the Budgam Assembly segment has around 1.26 lakh registered voters. All necessary arrangements, including comprehensive security measures, have been put in place to ensure free, fair, and peaceful polling.
Security forces have been deployed in strength across sensitive areas to maintain law and order and prevent any untoward incidents during the voting process.
The bypoll has drawn considerable attention, with 17 candidates in the fray vying to represent the constituency in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly.
