June 13 – Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday visited the site of the tragic Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad, which claimed the lives of 265 people.Modi arrived at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport and proceeded directly to the crash site in the Meghaninagar area, officials said. He was accompanied by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel.
The London-bound Air India flight, carrying 242 people including passengers and crew, crashed into the BJ Medical College complex shortly after taking off from Ahmedabad airport on Thursday afternoon.
Former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani was among the passengers on board.
According to officials, only one person survived the crash. The aircraft was carrying 232 passengers and 10 crew members, including 169 Indian nationals, 53 British citizens, seven Portuguese, and one Canadian.
The tragedy also claimed the lives of four MBBS students and the wife of a doctor residing at the college complex, located just outside the airport perimeter.
