April 28: Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif on Monday warned that an Indian military strike could be imminent, following last week’s deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, that claimed the lives of 26 people, most of them tourists. The incident has sharply escalated tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbours.
The attack has ignited a wave of outrage across India, with strong demands for swift and decisive action against Pakistan, which New Delhi accuses of providing safe haven to terrorist groups operating across the border.
Speaking to reporters, Asif said, “We have strengthened our forces as a precaution because an attack seems imminent. In such circumstances, some critical strategic decisions are necessary, and those decisions have already been made.”
Tensions remain high along the Line of Control (LoC), with both sides reportedly reinforcing their military presence. Meanwhile, the international community has urged restraint to prevent a further escalation of hostilities.
