Baramati, Maharashtra: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar died on Wednesday, January 28, after the aircraft he was travelling in crashed while attempting to land at Baramati in Pune district, officials said.
The aircraft was carrying six people, including Pawar, when the accident occurred. Those on board included Nationalist Congress Party leader Vidip Jadhav, Pinki Mali, Sumit Kapoor and Shambhavi Pathak, according to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
Confirming the fatalities, Kiran Gujar, a close aide of Pawar who was present at the local hospital, said that all six occupants were brought dead following the crash.
Ajit Pawar, 66, was travelling to Baramati to address four public meetings as part of his campaign ahead of the Zilla Parishad elections. The aircraft reportedly went down during its landing attempt, triggering an immediate emergency response.Authorities have launched an investigation to ascertain the cause of the crash.
