Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday has registered a Disproportionate Assets (DA) case against Malik Tahir Gani, Director of the State Motor Garages Department, following allegations that he accumulated massive wealth beyond his known sources of income.

According to an ACB statement, the action was initiated after the bureau received specific inputs regarding the officer’s alleged possession of huge assets. A secret verification was subsequently carried out, focusing on Gani—son of Abdul Gani Malik and a resident of Sanat Nagar, Srinagar, currently residing at Quarter No. 55-C, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu.

The verification exercise revealed that Gani, during his postings as ARTO Anantnag, ARTO Pulwama, and later as Director of the State Motor Garages, had allegedly accumulated substantial assets. These include residential houses, plots, shops, shopping complexes and multiple bank accounts registered in his name as well as in the names of family members and relatives. The value of these assets was found to be grossly disproportionate to his legitimate income.

The ACB said that the findings established a prima facie case of criminal misconduct under Section 13(1)(b) read with Section 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. Consequently, FIR No. 11/2025 was registered at Police Station ACB Central for further investigation.

Following the registration of the case, the Bureau sought and obtained search warrants from the court of the Special Judge Anti-Corruption, Jammu. Searches were subsequently carried out at four locations associated with the accused, including:

  • His Sanat Nagar residence in Srinagar
  • A residential house in Hyderpora, Srinagar
  • His residential quarter at Gandhi Nagar, Jammu
  • His official premises at New Plot, Jammu

During these raids, the ACB teams reportedly seized incriminating documents and other material evidence relevant to the investigation.

The Bureau stated that further investigation into the case is currently underway.
