SRINAGAR: Relentless rains have pushed the Jhelum above the danger mark at several locations, sparking fears of a flood. As of 9:00 PM, the Irrigation and Flood Control Department reported critical levels at Sangam and Munshi Bagh in Srinagar, with waters at Pampore also rising sharply.
Tributaries showed varied conditions: Vishow Nallah at Khudwani flowed close to the danger mark at 7.48 metres, while Rambiyara at Wachi, Lidder at Batkoot, and Sindh at Doderhama remained well below critical levels.
An official said the next 12 hours are crucial, warning that continued rainfall could force a flood declaration. Residents in low-lying areas have been advised to stay alert.
