SRINAGAR: Several areas of south Kashmir’s Shopian district, including Pahnoo, Trenz, Turkawangam, Sedow, Pehlipora, and parts of the town, have reported a jaundice outbreak linked to contaminated water sources.
Dozens of residents have shown symptoms such as fever, fatigue, and yellowing of eyes. Health officials said preliminary findings suggest sewage has seeped into drinking water pipelines, though tests are underway to confirm the source.
The Health Department has advised people to boil water, maintain hygiene, and seek medical help if symptoms appear. Locals, however, blamed the Public Health Engineering department for negligence, citing ignored complaints about leaking pipelines and unhygienic conditions near water sources.
