New Delhi, April 29:
The Central government has approved ₹153.36 crore in additional financial assistance to Manipur, which was severely affected by a hailstorm earlier this year. The decision was taken by a High-Level Committee (HLC) headed by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) said on Monday.
The approved amount will be released from the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) and is intended to support the state’s relief and recovery efforts. However, the MHA clarified that the disbursal of funds is subject to an adjustment—50 percent of the opening balance available in the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) for the financial year will be accounted for against the sanctioned amount.
The move comes in response to the damage caused by the unseasonal hailstorm in Manipur during 2024, which impacted livelihoods, property, and agriculture across multiple districts.
The Centre’s decision underscores its commitment to providing timely support to states grappling with natural disasters, ensuring that relief measures are implemented without delay.
