SRINAGAR: Panic gripped residents of Vervan in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Sunday after a body was recovered from the River Jhelum.
Witnesses said some locals noticed the body floating in the river and quickly alerted the police. Soon after, a team from Police Station Baramulla, led by SHO Owais Geelani, reached the spot and, with the help of residents, managed to pull the body out of the water.
Authorities confirmed that the deceased has not yet been identified. The body has been shifted for medico-legal procedures, while police have launched an investigation to establish the circumstances leading to the death.
