August 24: Australia produced a scintillating all-round performance to register a massive 276-run victory over South Africa in the third and final ODI at Mackay on Sunday, August 24.
Playing for pride after trailing 0–2 in the series, the hosts responded in emphatic fashion. Opting to bat first, Australia piled up a mammoth 431/2 — their highest-ever ODI total on home soil.
The batting blitz was headlined by Cameron Green, who hammered a breathtaking 47-ball century. He was well supported by fellow centurions Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh, both of whom tore into the South African attack with aggressive strokeplay.
In reply, South Africa crumbled under scoreboard pressure and were bowled out for just 155 in the 25th over. Left-arm spinner Cooper Connolly was the pick of the bowlers, returning sensational figures of 5/22 to dismantle the visitors’ middle and lower order.
Australia’s dominant win not only avoided a whitewash but also served as a statement of intent ahead of the upcoming international fixtures.
