New Delhi, July 24, 2025 — India and the United Kingdom have signed the long-anticipated Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), marking a significant milestone in bilateral relations and setting the stage for enhanced economic cooperation between the two countries.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the development on Thursday through a post on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), calling it “a new chapter” in the India–UK economic partnership.

“The signing of the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) reflects our shared commitment to enhancing trade, driving inclusive growth and creating opportunities for farmers, women, youth, MSMEs, and professionals,” PM Modi wrote.

The agreement is expected to eliminate or reduce tariffs on a wide range of goods and services, boost bilateral investments, and provide broader market access for both Indian and UK businesses. It also includes provisions to support innovation, ensure fair competition, and promote sustainable development.
