Srinagar, July 12:
Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Dr. Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq, under house detention for the second consecutive day, paid glowing tributes to the martyrs of July 13, 1931, on their 94th martyrdom anniversary.
In a statement issued to KNS, the Mirwaiz said these martyrs sacrificed their lives for the fundamental rights of the Kashmiri people under an autocratic and discriminatory regime. “Their sacrifices are unforgettable and will always be remembered,” he said.
Recalling the tradition established by Shaheed-e-Millat Mirwaiz Moulvi Muhammad Farooq, he said that peaceful processions to the Martyrs’ Graveyard—led by the Mirwaiz and attended by the public—were once a hallmark of this solemn day. However, he expressed deep regret that such commemorations have been repeatedly disallowed in recent years due to government-imposed restrictions.
He noted that the Jama Masjid’s pulpit and courtyard bear witness to the historical funeral prayers led by Muhajir-e-Millat Mirwaiz Moulana Muhammad Yusuf Shah, which saw the participation of lakhs of people bidding farewell to the martyrs.
Reaffirming the people’s commitment to the martyrs’ mission, Mirwaiz said their struggle will continue to be remembered and carried forward.
The statement added that if restrictions are lifted on July 13, congregational Zuhr prayers will be held at Jama Masjid Srinagar, followed by a visit to the Martyrs’ Graveyard at Naqshband Sahib to offer tributes and prayers.( KNS)
