New Delhi, July 3: Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced his departure for Trinidad & Tobago on Thursday, marking a key diplomatic visit to the Caribbean nation. In a post on social media platform X, the Prime Minister said he would attend a community programme in Port of Spain later this evening and address the Parliament of Trinidad & Tobago tomorrow.
“Leaving for Trinidad & Tobago. Later this evening, I look forward to attending a community programme in Port of Spain. Tomorrow, will be addressing the Parliament of Trinidad & Tobago. Looking forward to deepening ties with a valued partner in the Caribbean, with whom we share very old cultural linkages,” PM Modi wrote.
This visit underscores India’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its historical and cultural ties with Caribbean nations, particularly those with significant Indian-origin populations. The Indian diaspora constitutes a substantial segment of Trinidad & Tobago’s population, tracing its roots back to 19th-century indentured labor migrations.
