Kolkata: Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched a sharp attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, accusing her of opposing Operation Sindoor—the central government’s military response to the Pahalgam terrorist attack—and the Waqf Amendment Act to curry favor with the Muslim vote bank. Shah claimed that by opposing Operation Sindoor, Mamata Banerjee is insulting the mothers and sisters of India and predicted that in the 2026 assembly elections, these women would punish the CM and the Trinamool Congress.

Addressing recent communal riots in Murshidabad, Shah alleged that the violence was state-sponsored and blamed senior TMC leaders for involvement. He also accused the Mamata government of blocking the deployment of the Border Security Force (BSF) during the riots, allowing the violence to continue. The Murshidabad riots, triggered by protests over the Waqf law, resulted in at least three deaths and several injuries.
