JAMMU, May 10 — A senior government official was among five people killed and several others injured in intense shelling by Pakistani forces across Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri, Poonch, and Jammu districts early Saturday, officials said.
Raj Kumar Thapa, the Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC) of Rajouri, sustained critical injuries when an artillery shell struck his official residence in Rajouri town. Two of his staff members were also seriously wounded in the attack.
The injured were immediately rushed to the Government Medical College. Despite efforts by doctors, Thapa succumbed to his injuries, officials confirmed.
The shelling, which began in the early hours, triggered panic among residents in the border areas, prompting authorities to issue safety advisories and intensify monitoring.
Tensions remain high along the Line of Control (LoC) as officials assess the damage and coordinate relief measures for the affected civilians.
