In a significant crackdown, Bhubaneswar police have arrested four individuals allegedly involved in a NEET admission racket just a day before the NEET-UG 2025 examination, which is set to take place on Sunday.
As reported by the Press Trust of India (PTI), the accused—two from Odisha and one each from Jharkhand and Bihar—were apprehended by the Bhubaneswar Special Crime Unit. The group is accused of collecting money from NEET aspirants under the pretense of securing them admission into medical colleges.
Commissioner of Police S D Singh stated that the gang had planned to deploy proxy candidates to impersonate actual aspirants during the examination. “They lured students with the promise of guaranteed medical seats in exchange for hefty sums,” Singh told PTI.
Those arrested have been identified as Priyadarshi Kumar of Jharkhand, Arvind Kumar of Bihar, and Odisha natives Sunil Samantray and Rudra Narayan Behera.
According to police, the gang operated through local agents who gathered personal information from candidates, including Aadhaar numbers. This data was used to complete the NEET registration process, after which the admit cards were forwarded to contacts in Bihar. Authorities suspect that proxies were then deployed to take the exam using these credentials.
The case remains under investigation, and further arrests are expected as the probe deepens.
