SRINAGAR, Apr 24 — In a reassuring sign for Kashmir’s tourism industry, visitor activity remains steady despite the recent attack in Pahalgam. Tourists continue to explore the Valley’s scenic destinations, from Sonamarg to Doodhpathri and the snow-laden slopes of Gulmarg.
According to Tourism Director Raja Yaqoob, the ground reality contradicts fears of a tourist exodus. “We currently have more than 1,300 tourists in Srinagar. Just yesterday, over 5,000 people took the Gulmarg Gondola ride. Today, ticket sales reached 4,683,” he said. “This clearly shows the continued confidence visitors have in the region.”
Tour operators also confirmed that travel bookings are holding steady. “Our cabs are regularly ferrying tourists to all major spots. The narrative of mass departures is misleading,” said one tourism stakeholder.
Local residents, too, have stepped up to make visitors feel welcome and safe. “I’ve never seen such warmth before,” said Prerna Rajput, a tourist from Pune currently in Sonamarg. “People here constantly check in to see if we’re okay or need anything.”
Despite security concerns, Kashmir’s tourist spirit seems to be thriving — backed by both the trust of travellers and the hospitality of locals.
