Srinagar: Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, the spiritual leader of Kashmir, has strongly condemned the recent killings of tourists in the region, calling it a gruesome act of violence and an affront to human dignity. In a heartfelt tweet shared earlier today, the Mirwaiz emphasized the Islamic perspective on the sanctity of life, citing a powerful Quranic verse: “Whoever kills an innocent soul… it is as if he had slain mankind entirely” (Al Quran).

The Mirwaiz expressed profound sorrow for the tragic deaths, offering condolences to the families who have lost their loved ones. He further stated that the people of Kashmir are all too familiar with the pain of such senseless violence, as they have been subjected to similar tragedies over the years.

“This heinous act of killing innocent tourists is not just a blow to the families affected but to the entire fabric of humanity,” the Mirwaiz said, adding that such acts of violence are utterly rejected by Islam, a religion founded on peace and goodwill. The spiritual leader underscored that such brutality has no place in the Islamic faith or any moral framework.

The Mirwaiz also highlighted that the Mutahida Majlis Ulema (MMU), an influential religious and political alliance in Jammu and Kashmir, stands in support of the bereaved families. In response to the violence, MMU has called for a peaceful shutdown tomorrow, urging the people of Jammu and Kashmir to join in solidarity and peacefully protest the tragic killings.

“The people of Kashmir have endured enough suffering,” the Mirwaiz stated, urging for an end to violence and a return to peace. “We must stand united and show the world that we are committed to peace and harmony.”

The appeal for a shutdown comes as a call for non-violent resistance to the ongoing bloodshed in the region, hoping to convey a message of peace and solidarity at a time when tensions are high.

As the region continues to reel from the effects of violence, this statement by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq serves as a powerful reminder of the need for compassion, unity, and a firm commitment to peace in the face of adversity.
