NEW DELHI (Apr 22) – Following the deadly terror attack on tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, Union Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat condemned the assault as a “cowardly act” and promised that those responsible would face the “severest punishment.”

The attack, which unfolded earlier today in the picturesque meadows near Pahalgam, resulted in multiple fatalities, with at least 20 others reported injured. High-ranking officials have speculated that the death toll could exceed 20, though further details are yet to be confirmed as the investigation continues.

Shekhawat, expressing deep sorrow over the attack, took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to extend his condolences to the victims’ families. “I am deeply saddened by the brutal terror attack on tourists in Pahalgam, J&K. My thoughts are with the families of the victims of this cowardly act, and those responsible will face the severest punishment,” he wrote.

The attack targeted a popular tourist destination, sending shockwaves through the region. Local authorities and security forces immediately responded, with elite Para commandos being deployed to the area. These forces are working alongside local police to secure the site and assist the injured.

With the focus now on ensuring the safety of tourists and residents alike, there are growing concerns about the impact this attack will have on the local tourism industry. Pahalgam, known for its scenic beauty and tranquil atmosphere, has long been a favorite destination for both domestic and international travelers.

The investigation is ongoing, with authorities determined to identify the attackers and bring them to justice. The response from Union leaders, including Shekhawat, signals the government’s commitment to tackling terrorism and safeguarding civilians, particularly in regions where tourism is a vital economic contributor.

As the situation remains tense, security forces continue to maintain heightened vigilance in the area, working to prevent further violence and stabilize the region.
