Virat Kohli added another feather to his cap by becoming the quickest batter to reach 14,000 runs in One Day Internationals (ODIs). The former Indian captain achieved this milestone during the ICC Champions Trophy clash against Pakistan in Dubai. In doing so, he surpassed the record previously held by cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar, who had reached the mark in his 350th innings, whereas Kohli accomplished it in just 287 innings.

Kumar Sangakkara of Sri Lanka is the only other batter to have crossed this milestone, having done so in 378 innings.

Kohli, known for rising to the occasion, reached the landmark in style by striking his signature cover drive against Pakistan’s Haris Rauf. He entered the match needing just 15 runs to complete the feat.

The 36-year-old has also set the benchmark for being the fastest to every 1000-run milestone since reaching 8,000 ODI runs in June 2017. Additionally, Kohli holds the record for the most centuries in the format, having surpassed Tendulkar’s tally of 49 during the 2023 ODI World Cup. He now has 50 ODI centuries to his name.
