New Delhi, May 22: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday described his meeting with the Council of Ministers as “fruitful,” saying discussions centred on improving “Ease of Living,” “Ease of Doing Business,” and accelerating reforms aimed at building a developed India by 2047.

In a post on X, the prime minister said the meeting held on Thursday evening provided an opportunity for ministers to exchange perspectives and share best practices on governance and reforms.

“Had a fruitful meeting of the Council of Ministers yesterday. We exchanged perspectives and best practices relating to boosting ‘Ease of Living’, ‘Ease of Doing Business’ and how to further reforms in order to realise our shared dream of a Viksit Bharat,” Modi wrote.

The meeting, which lasted over four hours, was attended by cabinet ministers, ministers of state (independent charge), and ministers of state. It marked the first meeting of the Council of Ministers this year.

According to sources, the prime minister urged ministers to adopt 2047 as the target year for transforming India into a fully developed nation. He stressed that governance should remain focused on improving the lives of citizens and ensuring minimal interference in public affairs.

Modi also directed ministers to ensure maximum outreach and benefits from government welfare schemes while emphasizing efficiency in governance and timely completion of official work. He reportedly advised ministers to focus on future goals and achievements rather than dwelling on past accomplishments since the government came to power in 2014.

The prime minister underlined the importance of maintaining momentum in reforms and ensuring there is no pendency in government work.

During the meeting, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar briefed the council on Modi’s recent visits to the United Arab Emirates, Netherlands, Sweden, Norway and Italy.

Nine secretaries from various ministries and departments also presented reports on their initiatives and performance. Cabinet Secretary T. V. Somanathan gave a presentation on overall government reform measures and people-centric initiatives, while NITI Aayog member Rajiv Gauba also addressed the gathering.

The meeting came shortly after the BJP’s strong performance in the recently concluded assembly elections in West Bengal and Assam, as well as the party’s return to power in Puducherry.
