SRINAGAR: Members of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Kashmir unit on Friday organized a protest in Srinagar opposing the sale of liquor in the Valley and called for a complete prohibition on alcohol outlets.
During the demonstration, party workers raised slogans against the liquor business and appealed to the administration to take steps in line with public sentiments. Protesters argued that the increasing availability of alcohol was negatively affecting Kashmir’s social and cultural values.
Police officials later stepped in to disperse the gathering, detaining several BJP activists to prevent any disturbance to public order.
Senior party representatives said the campaign against liquor sales would continue and that they would push for stronger action to restrict the spread of alcohol across the region. Authorities, meanwhile, stated that the overall situation remained peaceful and under control.
