December 2: In a swift and coordinated humanitarian effort, the Indian Army has deployed a specialised contingent to Sri Lanka under Operation Sagar Bandhu, reaffirming India’s commitment to stand by its neighbour in a time of crisis.
The contingent comprises expert medical, engineering, and signals teams equipped to deliver immediate and sustained relief. The medical component includes Advanced Dressing Stations (ADS) and Mobile Surgical Teams (MST) fitted with an operational theatre capable of conducting both major and minor surgeries. The setup also features a dedicated facility that can accommodate 20–30 patients at a time, ensuring round-the-clock medical support.
Engineering units accompanying the contingent are assisting local authorities in restoring essential services and repairing critical infrastructure. Meanwhile, the signals detachment has been tasked with maintaining uninterrupted communication lines to ensure seamless coordination of relief operations.
India and Sri Lanka share a longstanding civilisational bond built on friendship, cooperation, and mutual trust. Reflecting this enduring relationship, the Indian Army has reiterated its commitment to support the people of Sri Lanka during this challenging period, pledging continued assistance to help stabilise conditions and accelerate the restoration of normalcy.
