SRINAGAR: Ramban’s renowned Sulai honey has drawn national attention after Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted it in his Mann Ki Baat address, noting its growing recognition since receiving the Geographical Indication (GI) tag.
The Prime Minister said the unique hilly terrain of Jammu and Kashmir contributes to the distinctive quality of this honey, produced from the wild basil plant locally called Sulai. Ramban’s white Sulai honey, awarded the GI tag a few years ago, is now being widely appreciated for its natural purity and unique characteristics.
According to officials, honeybees in Ramban feed on the snow-white Sulai blossoms from August to October, resulting in a naturally sweet, light-golden honey with subtle floral notes. Producers say the honey is rich in nutrients and known for its antioxidant and immunomodulatory properties, reflecting the rich wild flora of the region.
