Guwahati, Nov 26: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday told the state assembly that the death of renowned singer Zubeen Garg in Singapore was a case of “plain and simple murder,” not an accident.
Garg died earlier this month while swimming in the sea during a visit to Singapore. His sudden demise had triggered widespread shock and demands for a thorough investigation.
Sarma said that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the circumstances surrounding the singer’s death has already added murder charges to the case after gathering preliminary findings.
The chief minister made the remarks during a discussion initiated under an adjournment motion moved by the opposition, which sought clarity on the progress of the investigation and the government’s stance on the matter.
Sarma assured the House that the state government was committed to uncovering the truth and ensuring justice for the celebrated artist, whose contributions to Assam’s cultural landscape have been immense.
