SRINAGAR: Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary on Tuesday urged MP Aga Ruhullah Mehdi to raise public concerns in Parliament rather than through street protests, suggesting the MP was seeking unnecessary attention.

Speaking to reporters, Choudhary reiterated the Chief Minister’s assurance that there is no proposal to hike electricity tariffs. “Nobody has stopped Aga Sahab from protesting, but as an Honourable Member of Parliament, he should voice issues in Parliament,” he said.

The Deputy CM added that Mehdi, given his position and protocol, can directly approach the Chief Minister or the Prime Minister. “It does not suit an MP to speak on the streets just to remain in the limelight,” he remarked.

Choudhary also urged the media to refrain from giving undue prominence to individuals “trying to stay in the limelight.”
