New Delhi: The Indian Navy was battle-ready in the Arabian Sea when Pakistan called for a ceasefire after four days of intense military conflict in May, Director General of Military Operations Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai revealed on Tuesday.

Speaking at the UN Troop Contributing Countries’ Chiefs’ Conclave, Lt Gen Ghai said India launched Operation Sindoor — precision strikes on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir — in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people.

“The Navy had sailed into the Arabian Sea and was well poised for action,” he said, adding that had Pakistan escalated further, “it could have been catastrophic for them, not just from the sea but on multiple fronts.”

He noted that between April 22 and May 7, India conducted precautionary border deployments and coordinated across military and government agencies to deter further hostilities.
