Birmingham, Oct 5: An Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner operating from Amritsar to Birmingham was grounded in the United Kingdom after its Ram Air Turbine (RAT)—an emergency power-generating device—unexpectedly deployed during descent on Saturday.
Flight AI117 landed safely at Birmingham Airport, and all 271 passengers and crew members disembarked without incident. Air India confirmed that the aircraft’s electrical and hydraulic systems were functioning normally despite the RAT deployment.
Air India engineers in coordination with Boeing specialists are investigating the incident. The airline said the aircraft will remain grounded until safety checks are completed and clearance is granted for further operations.
