Ladakh, Sept 9 — Three Indian Army personnel were killed on Tuesday after a major avalanche struck the Siachen base camp in Ladakh.
According to sources, a rescue operation was immediately launched in the region, often referred to as the world’s highest battlefield.
Avalanches are frequent in the Siachen Glacier area, located at the northern tip of the Line of Control, where temperatures can plunge to as low as –60°C.
