New Delhi, April 22 — All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Monday strongly defended the institution of Waqf, asserting its presence across the Muslim world, including in kingdoms like Saudi Arabia.Speaking at the ‘Save Waqf Conference’ held at Delhi’s Talkatora Stadium, Owaisi responded to a recent statement by a BJP leader in Parliament, who reportedly claimed that certain Muslim countries do not have Waqf properties.“Someone from the BJP said in the Parliament that this particular Muslim country does not have Waqf,” Owaisi said. “I want to tell PM Narendra Modi that during his visit to Saudi Arabia, he should ask the crown prince if Medina is built on Waqf land. Waqf exists in every Muslim country, be it a democracy or a kingdom.”The Hyderabad MP highlighted the historical and religious significance of Waqf, describing it as an essential part of Muslim heritage and community welfare. His remarks come amid ongoing debates and controversies over Waqf properties in India, with the AIMIM leader accusing the ruling party of undermining Muslim institutions. The conference saw participation from various community leaders and organizations calling for the protection and proper management of Waqf assets across the country.
