Prime Minister Narendra Modi will unveil India’s first-ever 9000-horsepower electric locomotive at Dahod in Gujarat tomorrow May 22. It will mark a significant milestone in the country’s railway modernization and ‘Make in India’ initiative.
The powerful locomotive, manufactured at the newly developed Dahod facility, is the result of a ₹20,000 crore investment aimed at transforming India’s freight rail capabilities. The plant is projected to produce 1,200 such engines over the next 11 years, in partnership with French rolling stock major Alstom.
