New Delhi, June 16:
During his visit to Cyprus, Prime Minister Narendra Modi gifted an exquisite handmade Kashmiri silk carpet to President Nikos Christodoulides, highlighting India’s rich artisanal legacy.
Alongside the carpet, the Prime Minister also presented a finely crafted silver clutch purse made by artisans from Andhra Pradesh, reflecting the diverse cultural craftsmanship across Indian states.
Officials described the silk carpet as a remarkable example of traditional Kashmiri artistry. Woven by skilled hands in the Kashmir Valley using age-old hand-knotting techniques, the carpet is made from pure mulberry silk and coloured with natural dyes. Its intricate design draws inspiration from the region’s natural elements—chinar leaves, serene lakes, and floral motifs.
Known for their exceptional knot density and glossy texture, Kashmiri silk carpets are treasured worldwide as heirlooms and cherished symbols of India’s timeless heritage and craftsmanship.
