SRINAGAR: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has stepped up its investigation into the recent Pahalgam terror attack by interrogating two incarcerated militants—Mushtaq and Nisar—currently lodged in Jammu jail since April 2023.

The two are under scrutiny for their possible involvement in the Pahalgam assault, which killed 26 civilians and left many others injured. Authorities suspect the attack may be linked to a broader terror network.

Mushtaq and Nisar were previously arrested for their alleged participation in an attack on civilians in Rajouri district, followed by an IED explosion that killed seven people, including two children, and injured several more.

The NIA officially took charge of the Pahalgam case on April 27, registering an FIR in Jammu. Since then, multiple investigative teams have been deployed to gather evidence and record statements from witnesses and victims’ families in states such as Maharashtra, Odisha, and West Bengal.

Initial leads indicate that five to seven terrorists may have carried out the attack, with the support of at least two local militants. Both local suspects are believed to have received training in Pakistan.

The probe is ongoing as authorities work to dismantle the network behind the attack and bring all those involved to justice.
