NEW DELHI, Apr 18 — Rajya Sabha MP and senior advocate Kapil Sibal on Friday criticized Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar for making remarks against the judiciary, calling them “unconstitutional” and unprecedented for someone in his position.
Referring to comments made by Dhankhar a day earlier, Sibal emphasized that the roles of the Lok Sabha Speaker and Rajya Sabha Chairman demand political neutrality, and they must not act as representatives of any political party.
“Everyone knows the Speaker sits in the center of the House, not as a voice for any one party. Their vote only comes into play in a tie. The same standard of impartiality applies to the Rajya Sabha Chair,” Sibal said at a press briefing in the capital.
He added that such political commentary from a constitutional authority undermines the integrity of parliamentary roles.
