Russian Drone Strike Kills 12-Year-Old in Ukraine as Quiet U.S. Peace Push Continues

A Russian drone attack on a home in central Ukraine has killed a 12-year-old boy, Ukrainian officials said, as both sides continued long-range strikes and U.S.-led peace efforts remained largely behind closed doors.

Ukraine reportedly targeted a Russian port and an oil refinery in retaliatory strikes, while U.S. President Donald Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, and Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, were expected to meet a Ukrainian delegation Thursday in Miami. It remained unclear whether the meeting took place.

The planned talks followed a high-level meeting at the Kremlin on Tuesday between Russian President Vladimir Putin and the U.S. envoys. With nearly four years of war and previous diplomacy yielding little, officials have released few details about the latest negotiations, though Trump’s initial 28-point proposal recently leaked.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Kyiv’s team in Miami sought clarity from Washington regarding the Kremlin discussions. He and European allies have long accused Putin of dragging out negotiations while continuing military offensives.
