Jammu, Dec 3: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday attended an event marking the International Day of Persons with Disabilities and reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to creating an inclusive and barrier-free environment for persons with disabilities (Divyangjans) in the Union Territory.

Addressing the gathering, the LG hailed the resilience and determination of persons with disabilities, saying, “I salute the resilience, determination and potential of Divyangjans. We are committed to building a system that aligns with their dreams and aspirations, eliminating all challenges and barriers.”

He noted that the government was continuously working to strengthen support systems, enhance accessibility and ensure equal opportunities for education, skill development and employment.

Calling for collective responsibility, Sinha urged government officials, civil society groups and social organizations to play an active role in protecting and promoting the rights of persons with disabilities. “We must work with sensitivity, awareness, and a shared resolve to ensure their dignity and meaningful participation, and guarantee access to education, skills, and livelihoods,” he added.

The event witnessed participation from disability rights activists, social welfare officials, and representatives of various organizations working for the empowerment of persons with disabilities. The LG reiterated that the UT administration would continue to prioritise policies aimed at inclusion, accessibility and empowerment of Divyangjans across sectors.
