Srinagar: In a significant breakthrough, Srinagar Police have cracked a major cheating and stolen gold racket with the arrest of a notorious fraudster along with two associates involved in receiving and disposing of stolen gold.

Police Station Lal Bazar arrested Asmat Jan alias Taboo, a well-known habitual offender wanted in multiple cheating cases across Kashmir. According to officials, she had been evading arrest for a long time before being traced to Jalandhar, Punjab, where she was apprehended following sustained efforts of Lal Bazar police teams working under the supervision of the SDPO and Zonal SP.

During the investigation, police also arrested two of her associates — Shameem Ahmad Sheikh, a goldsmith, and Basir Ahmad Dar — for allegedly receiving, transporting, and facilitating the disposal of stolen gold items linked to the racket.

Officials said that the trio had been operating a network that targeted unsuspecting victims, defrauded them, and then routed the stolen gold through illicit channels.

Police sources confirmed that further investigation is underway, and more recoveries and arrests are expected in the coming days as the racket appears to involve multiple layers.

Srinagar Police have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to fraudulent schemes or stolen goods.
