SRINAGAR: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Akshay Labroo, on Saturday announced that the long-awaited Sanatnagar flyover is in its final phase of completion. One of its two tubes has successfully undergone load testing, while testing of the second tube is expected to conclude by Sunday.
Speaking to reporters at the project site, the DC highlighted the significance of the flyover for Srinagar’s residents and daily commuters, noting that its completion has been eagerly anticipated.
“This is a major project for Srinagar. We have been hearing about it for years, and today, seeing one tube successfully complete load testing and the other almost done gives us a great sense of satisfaction,” he said.
He added that by tomorrow evening, the flyover will be technically complete in all substantial aspects.
The Deputy Commissioner further stated that once the remaining technical formalities are finalized, the Roads and Buildings (R&B) Department will hand over the project. “After that, the government will decide on the date of its inauguration,” he said.
SSP Traffic Srinagar also visited the site to assess traffic management strategies and explore ways to ensure the efficient use of the flyover once it becomes operational. “As soon as the load testing concludes, this much-awaited facility will be ready for public use,” the DC noted.
The Sanatnagar flyover, designed to ease the heavy traffic flow at one of Srinagar’s busiest intersections, is expected to significantly improve connectivity between Rawalpora, Rambagh, and the Airport Road corridor once opened.
