Washington, D.C., May 18 — Former US President Joe Biden has been diagnosed with an aggressive, high-grade prostate cancer that has spread to his bones, his office confirmed on Sunday.

The 82-year-old was diagnosed after reporting worsening urinary symptoms. Tests revealed a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5), indicating metastatic prostate cancer. Despite the severity, the cancer is hormone-sensitive, which doctors say allows for effective treatment.

Biden and his family are currently consulting physicians to determine the best course of action.

The diagnosis coincides with revelations from an upcoming book, Original Sin by CNN’s Jake Tapper and Axios’ Alex Thompson, which details internal concerns over Biden’s physical decline during his presidency. According to excerpts, aides considered using a wheelchair and discreetly modified his environment to accommodate mobility issues, especially after a poor debate performance in June 2024 led to his withdrawal from the presidential race.
