SRINAGAR: The Awami Itihaad Party (AIP) on Saturday announced that its leader and incarcerated Baramulla MP, Engineer Rashid, has begun a 48-hour hunger strike inside New Delhi’s Tihar Jail.
AIP Chief Spokesperson Inam Un Nabi said Rashid started the protest at 11 a.m., as conveyed in a letter to the Director General of Prisons. The strike, described as symbolic, will continue until the morning of September 22.
According to Inam, the initiative is aimed at drawing attention to what Rashid has termed the “hypocrisy” of both Indian and Pakistani governments, who, he said, are celebrating cricket diplomacy and the Asia Cup while “overlooking the pain, sacrifices, and human rights” of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
